The Lap-Band System Procedure

Since there is no cutting, stapling or intestinal re-routing involved in the Lap-Band System procedure, it is the least traumatic and safest of all weight loss surgeries. A inflatable silicone band is inserted through small incisions in the abdomen and positioned around the upper stomach to create a new, tiny stomach pouch that allows you to feel full and satisfied while eating less. In turn, this results in weight loss. Learn more…

Sleeve Gastrectomy

The sleeve gastrectomy involves surgery on the stomach only. It consists of using a stapling device to create a thin vertical sleeve by removing approximately two-thirds of the stomach. After the procedure, the stomach is about the shape and size of a banana. This will limit your portion size and increase satiety. The sleeve procedure does allow for normal digestion and nutrient absorption but because part of the stomach is removed, it is not reversible.

Intra Gastric Balloon

The intra gastric balloon is an FDA approved device designed to provide short-term weight loss therapy. The Orbera Intra-gastric balloon is a temporary device that allows patients to achieve realistic goals of weight loss around 20 to 40 pounds provided that they adhere to our prescribed post-operative program guidelines and follow up. We use the device as a tool to help patients lose weight. Learn more…

Gastric Bypass

Gastric bypass surgery is performed using a cutting and stapling device that separates a small piece of the stomach, referred to as the pouch from the rest of the stomach. The small pouch, roughly the size of a golf ball is then connected to the lower portion of the digestive tract bypassing the remaining part of the original stomach. Reducing the stomach and bypassing a portion of intestines restricts food consumption and reduces absorption of certain sugars, fats, proteins and vitamins from food.

My choice was easy: the Lap-Band surgery was the least invasive option and would enable me to recover more quickly. It was an outpatient procedure and I was back at work in 4-5 days. I haven’t been hungry since and I eat whatever I want.

A world of changes has occurred – others’ perceptions, my confidence and self-esteem, a higher energy level, the excitement of looking in the mirror and seeing the new me, the joy of knowing that I can become all that I can be… I could go on, but above all, the Lap-Band has given me a healthier lifestyle and a healthier me.

The Lap-Band is such a good tool to remind you when to stop eating and a way to lose weight without sacrificing nutrition. Would I recommend this surgery to someone else? Absolutely! Would I have it again myself? In a heartbeat.
